As part of an ongoing project with the mixed-race media-making community, the festival and CAAM present this special discussion on how the complexities of hapa identity are articulated through film, video and digital media. Diffusing the boundaries of live action and animation; mixing the textures and meanings of film and video formats, using cell phones and social media websites as both creative tools and delivery systems: these are but a few of the strategies employed by media artists to represent perspectives and experiences which are themselves defined by mixing and layering, and which traditional media forms perhaps cannot fully articulate. Join an award-winning group of panelists for a fascinating exploration of race, media and innovation.
