Vietnam war through its material remnants by “re-appropriating” 17 propaganda films acquired by the Library of Congress from the South Vietnamese Embassy in 1975. As the filmmakers examine the Library’s archives and handle dusty film cans, deteriorating labels and catalogs, their exercise becomes an inquiry into how the historical record is created, and into the contested relations between Vietnam and the U.S., democracy and nation building.
